# Chat with your coach

**Ask Porter** is a coach you can ask questions in plain language. There are two kinds of conversation with it, and the difference matters.

## About one visit

Open a conversation and tap the **Chat with Porter** bar at the top.

That thread knows which visit you mean. It has the transcript, the summary and the score, so you can ask things like:

* *What did I miss?*
* *How should I have handled the price objection?*
* *Draft me a follow-up message for this customer.*

## About everything

Tap the **Chat** pill in the top right of any tab.

That thread is not tied to a visit. It is the one for questions across your week:

* *What should I follow up on this week?*
* *Which of my conversations went worst, and why?*

## Your chat history

The Chat pill opens your list of past threads, newest first, each with the day it happened. Tap one to carry on where you left off.

Tap **New chat** to start a fresh general thread. Do this when you change subject — a thread that runs for weeks gets less useful, not more.

## Sending a message

Type in the bar at the bottom and send. Porter shows **Porter is thinking…** while it works, then the whole reply arrives at once.

{% hint style="info" %}
Replies arrive complete rather than typing themselves out word by word. If you see the spinner, it is working — give it a moment.
{% endhint %}

### If a message does not send

Porter says **That didn't send** under the message, with two choices:

* **Try again** — resends it.
* **Discard** — removes it.

Your message is not lost while you decide.

## When you are offline

Ask Porter needs a connection. Recording does not — see [Where your recording goes](/docs/porter-for-team-members/record-an-in-person-visit/where-your-recording-goes.md).
