# Notes for the App Review team

This page is for Apple's App Review team. It is written for a reviewer who has the App Store build in front of them and five minutes to see whether the app does what the listing says.

The short version: Porter records a customer conversation, gets the audio safely off the phone, and shows you a transcript, a summary and a coaching score back. **You do not have to record anything to review the app** — the test account is already full of finished conversations.

## The test account

| | |
| ------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Email** | `test+appreviewer@runporter.com` |
| **Password** | Shared with the review team through **1Password**, not printed here. |
| **Build** | **Porter**, pointed at production. Not *Porter DEV*. |

This is a real, existing account rather than a demo mode, so everything you see is the app's normal behaviour against live servers.

{% hint style="info" %}
If the 1Password item has not reached you, the contact in App Store Connect can re-share it. Please do not reset the password from the web app — it is the same account the next review will use.
{% endhint %}

### Signing in

1. Open **Porter**.
2. Enter the email and password above.
3. Tap **Sign in**.

If a screen appears asking you to pick a workspace, tap the one listed. That branch only appears when an email belongs to more than one workspace, and Porter cannot sign you in until it knows which — see [Install Porter and sign in](/docs/porter-for-team-members/install-and-sign-in.md).

### There is no sign-up screen, on purpose

Porter is a tool companies buy for their field reps. Accounts are created for employees by a workspace admin in the [Porter web app](https://app.distance.so), never by the person holding the phone. So the app has no registration, and no password reset — both would be dead ends here.

Everything the app offers is available to the account above. Nothing is gated behind a purchase, and the app contains no in-app purchases or subscriptions.

## What is already in the account

Signing in gets you straight to finished data. Nothing below needs a recording of your own:

* **Conversations** — several past visits, newest first, each with a full transcript, a summary, an outcome and next step, and a coaching score out of 100. Open any row and use the three tabs across the top: [Summary](/docs/reviewing-a-conversation/summary.md), [Transcript](/docs/reviewing-a-conversation/transcript.md), [Coaching](/docs/reviewing-a-conversation/coaching.md).
* **Ask Porter** — existing chat threads, plus the ability to start new ones. The **Chat** pill in the top right is the general coach; the chat bar inside a conversation is the one that knows about that visit.
* **Digests** — **Account → Digests** has daily and weekly summaries already written.
* **Account** — profile, recording settings, legal pages, account deletion and log out.

A five-minute pass that covers the whole app: open a conversation, read the three tabs, ask the coach a question in it, then look at **Account**.

## If you want to record a visit

You are welcome to. Any speech works — no customer required.

1. On the **Record** tab, tap **Start recording**. Name and phone number are optional; leave them blank.
2. Read the **Before you record** card. It names what is sent (audio, optional contact fields, notes), who receives it (Porter, AssemblyAI, OpenAI, Anthropic), and that recordings are visible to the workspace. Tap **I agree, start recording**.
3. Allow the microphone when iOS asks. Porter cannot record without it. If you decline, an in-app alert offers **Open Settings** — iOS will not ask again.
4. Talk for thirty seconds or so.
5. Tap **Done**.

Porter writes the audio to the device first, then uploads it and shows the progress. Transcription and scoring usually finish within a few minutes, and the conversation updates itself while you watch. The account already contains finished examples in case you would rather not wait.

## Microphone and background audio

Porter declares the **audio** background mode and asks for the microphone. Both are load-bearing: a rep starts a recording in a driveway and puts the phone in a pocket, so the recording has to survive the screen locking.

* Porter records **only** while a recording is running. There is no always-on listening, no wake word, and no recording that starts by itself.
* While one is running there is always a visible indicator — the recorder screen, or a pill above the tab bar with a live waveform and the running time.
* A recording ends only when the user taps **Done**, or when Porter [ends it after a long silence](/docs/recording-a-visit/auto-end-on-silence.md).
* Before each new recording, the app shows a **Before you record** card that discloses what data is sent, names third-party AI processors (AssemblyAI, OpenAI, Anthropic), states that recordings are workspace-visible, and reminds the rep that recording others may require consent under local law. The rep must tap **I agree, start recording** before capture begins.
* **Ask Porter** shows a one-time AI disclosure before the first chat message is sent.

## Where to find the things review usually looks for

| What you are looking for | Where it is |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Account deletion** | **Account → Delete account**. It opens a request form on the web, and deletes nothing by itself. |
| **Privacy Policy** | **Account → Privacy Policy**, or [runporter.com/privacy-policy](https://runporter.com/privacy-policy). |
| **Terms of Service** | **Account → Terms of Service**, or [runporter.com/terms](https://runporter.com/terms). |
| **Log out** | **Account → Log out**. Signs out this device only. |
| **Recording consent** | Tap **Start recording**, then **I agree, start recording** on the disclosure card. |
| **Microphone prompt** | Immediately after agreeing — the first time only. |
| **Ask Porter AI consent** | The first time you send a chat message. |

## Deliberate limits, so they do not read as bugs

Some of these look like something missing. They are decisions, and the app states each one rather than showing a control that would not work:

* **No account creation or password reset in the app** — both live in the web app, for the reason above.
* **No deleting a single recording**, from the phone or from Porter. A conversation a rep records once cannot be re-recorded, and nothing in the app deletes audio to recover from a failure.
* **No private recordings.** Conversations are visible to the whole workspace, and the app says so instead of offering a toggle nothing would honour.
* **Speaker labels read "Speaker 1", not "Rep" and "Customer."** Porter can tell the voice changed but not whose it is, and a confident wrong label is worse than a neutral one.
* **iPhone, portrait, light appearance.** There is no tablet layout and no dark mode yet.

The full list is in [What Porter does not do yet](/docs/help/what-porter-does-not-do-yet.md).

## Questions

If something blocks the review, please use the contact in App Store Connect rather than rejecting on a guess — we would rather answer it the same day. The rest of this site is the user documentation and describes every screen in the build you have.
