# Record

Capture customer conversations for review, coaching, and follow-up.

Recording conversations with Porter gives your team a record of customer interactions, whether they happen in person or over the phone. Once a recording is processed, Porter turns it into information your team can use to understand the interaction, including a transcript, summary, captured details, and coaching feedback.

Porter supports two types of conversation recording:

* [**In-person conversations**](/docs/porter-for-team-members/record-an-in-person-visit.md) — Record visits, walk-ins, and in-home conversations using the Porter mobile app.
* [**Phone conversations**](/docs/porter-for-managers/record-conversations/record-phone-calls.md) — Record inbound and outbound calls using a Porter business number or a supported telephony integration.

## **Record phone conversations**

Porter can capture inbound and outbound phone conversations through a Porter business number or a supported telephony integration.

For information about connecting your phone system and recording calls, see [**Record phone calls**](/docs/porter-for-managers/record-conversations/record-phone-calls.md).

## **Keep recordings available when uploading**

For [**in-person recordings**](/docs/porter-for-team-members.md#record-an-in-person-visit), Porter first saves the recording to the team member’s device before uploading it. If the device temporarily loses its connection, the recording can remain on the device and Porter automatically retries the upload when a connection becomes available.

This helps prevent a temporary connection problem from interrupting the upload of a completed recording.

For more information about how recordings are saved, uploaded, stored, and handled, see [**Privacy and data**](/docs/privacy-and-data.md).

## **Turn recordings into coaching and follow-up**

A recording becomes useful when your team can do something with what happened. After processing, Porter makes the conversation available for review with information such as the transcript, summary, captured details, and coaching results.

Managers can use these insights to understand the customer interaction, recognize what was handled well, identify opportunities to improve, and determine where follow-up or coaching may be needed.

From [**Conversations**](/docs/porter-for-managers/conversations.md), you can open a recording and use the available conversation tools to review the interaction in more detail.
